She Spins
round – and – round she twirls
dreamer spinning fairy tales
orbiting wonder
~~~
we came spinning
out of nothingness
scattering stars
like dust
the stars made a circle
and in the middle
we dance
the wheel of heaven
circles God
like a mill
if you grab a spoke
it will tear your hand off
turning and turning
it sunders
all attachment
were that wheel not in love
it would cry
“enough! how long this turning?”
every atom
turns bewildered
beggars circle tables
dogs circle carrion
the lover circles
his own heart
ashamed,
I circle shame
a ruined water wheel
whichever way I turn
is the river
if that rusty old sky
creaks to a stop
still, still I turn
and it is only God
circling Himself
~Rumi~
nice post and sweet photo:) Hope you are doing better, Robyn
I bet she is still the same. Sweet and playful Robyn.
Your eyes are charismatic, and I know the dream is yours only.
I’m glad to read another passage from Rumi. Inspiring it is.
Much love and blessings. 🙂
October 27, 2012 at 12:08 AM
Pawan thank you sooo much ~ YES still the same spirit — absolutely. You must be very intuitive – very playful by nature. The pain has been my challenge here — but the soul’s layers go deep and it’s really all still there. Your comment is lovely (re: eyes and dream) ~ much appreciate your thoughtfulness. Rumi’s passage has much depth here… many levels of insight. I was thrilled to create this post as this is a treasured childhood photo of mine, and giving it this platform means the world. Gratitude and Love to you ~ RL
October 27, 2012 at 12:55 AM
You care for the child, and there is your heaven within you. Your openness balances with joyful nature. It is your strength, for love you reflect each way.
Thanks to you, Robyn. You bring colourful smiles for this moody character. 🙂
Pawan ~ such inspiration in your words. I will hold them near ~ thank you dear friend x R
I love this photo Robyn! Is that you? A lovely girl – stopped in motion, so sweet. She looks like a constant runner 🙂 I love the poem as well… it has some deep emotions within, I can definitely sense some struggles, but then the picture shows a lovely spirit that always want to be free 🙂 Thank you for sharing my dear, and all the best to you! xxo
I love Rumi…and this particular poem is so powerful. Lovely photo too, such gorgeous eyes. I assume it is you, Robyn?
October 27, 2012 at 6:05 AM
Thank you Yaz ~ yes this piece resonated a lot for me ~ aren’t we always ‘circling’ ~ trying to find center… that which is Divine ~ which is Love ~ in the middle…?
Yes – you assumed right … sweet friend – this little girl is me at about 8 yo. I did this ‘spinning ritual’ almost daily. Was fortunate to have a friend whose Dad was an awesome photographer and captured this candid in ’71 ~ Love to you Yaz ~R
October 27, 2012 at 11:10 AM
October 28, 2012 at 6:02 AM
The circle must turn but we can choose to stand still and wait for it to go full or we can walk a straight line as it spins; allow us to at least control what we can. Enjoyed another one of your poems!!!!
October 27, 2012 at 6:24 AM
Thank you AB ~ and I think the part in the poem that really speaks truth is this:
were that wheel not in love
it would cry
“enough! how long this turning?”
Back to the power of Love my friend ~ Blessings to you and so glad you enjoyed! ~RL
October 27, 2012 at 1:27 PM
I enjoy the conclusion ” it is only God circling himself”…. simply powerful!!!!
October 27, 2012 at 1:37 PM
I agree AB — the final line is at the “center” of everything isn’t’ it? ~Thank you.
October 27, 2012 at 1:47 PM
yes it is….
October 27, 2012 at 1:53 PM
Rumi wrote the words… and the photo is either you when younger (and not that long ago) or it is your daughter… I love that photo and the spinning words that precede it…
How are you… and I hope all went well for you in the past week… was whatever they did a success??
October 27, 2012 at 7:45 AM
Yes bulldog ~ it is me (8 years old) — did this spinning thing as a daily fun ritual — no idea why, but i’ve learned that some great healers and mystics do this as a spiritual exercise… maybe will try it now!! 🙂 I’m ok ~ not getting any great relief as of yet from my procedure this week, but can take 10 days. Obviously a mechanical issue of instability (dysplasia) based on observation under video x ray this week. .. – so may be looking as major surgery again ~ I’d rather spin!!! Much Love ~ xo
October 27, 2012 at 1:30 PM
well my prayers are with you… that all will go well and relief is just around the corner… and by the way you were a pretty little girl with a certain angelic look about you… so that tells me you’re gonna be alright…
October 27, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Aww thank you bd… I do love this photo – not so much thinking pretty – but the motion and this spin — just brings me back to a good place ~ so grateful for your friendship. ~Blessings ~RL
Mevlana Rumi (HA) cleanses us with his words!
As little children we fancied our “twirls”. And I believe anybody who could relate to Rumi (HA)’s words know that, long after we grow up we still carry within us “a whirling dervish” — twirling through life.
Lovely post Robyn!
May the little dreamer spin fairy tales forever.
October 27, 2012 at 8:09 AM
Yes silentfingers… I so agree about Rumi ~Thank you!
and to me, so amazing to me that I had this “whirling dervish” in me from the start. I was an avid fan of spinning– spun around my living room till I was dizzy and blissful almost daily! ~ silly me hugh? So thrilled you appreciated the post ~ Wishing you circles of Love ~RL
October 27, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Beautiful child and most amazing woman. 🙂 Thanks for another Rumi poem Robyn. Praying that you received some relief from your earlier medical procedure.
October 27, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Thank you so much dear LuAnn. You are so kind always ~ yes — waiting for relief (as I spin spin spin)… can take 10 days… so we will see. Looking like I will likely need surgical intervention to stop my hip from being unstable in the socket. Will keep up posted ~ and sooo much appreciate your loving thoughts my way! xo R
October 27, 2012 at 1:32 PM
The little girl inside, she hides sometimes but she’s always in there waiting her turn to emerge again isn’t she Robyn. I think that Pawan’s take on you and your photo (which is immediately recognizable) is right on the money I think. I love the photo of you, your essence of course. The poetry an excellent choice, your own perfect. Thank you Robyn, along with you I love all the aspects of your talent, such a pleasure to come here! Much affection and love to you this evening. (Will you be safe from the storm coming your way?) Penny xxoxx
October 27, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Thank you so much Penny. So glad you got to meet little me here…and agree ~ Pawan did a lovely job summing it up!
Unfortunately was evacuated this morning ~ hubby out of town too – so Rumi and I are 20 minles North at a hotel until Hurricane Sandy
passes through … what a challenging day this has been… was alone in “my own little corner” trying to catch up on blogging and the police came to door to say ~ leave NOW .. oh the wonders of nature. Hopefully will be back at WP soon ~ we are due to loose power etc.. so we shall hope for the best! Sending tons of Love your way dearest friend ~ xo RL
