Hope & Healing Through Photography and Poetic Expression

Crossing Over

I shot the image of this bridge early evening today, not knowing I’d have strong emotions about the scene later. As I loaded my photos onto the computer and stared at this one, it occurred to me that someone near & dear to me will soon be crossing over a metaphorical bridge in her own life…

My oldest daughter Marysa was born 22 years ago tomorrow.

I will never forget that night–February 2nd 1990.

I will never forget her passage into this world, and the profound effect it had on me.

I will never forget the bright-eyed baby girl who never ceased to amaze me with her humor and her song.

I will never forget the quick-witted little tot she was…always dreaming, always thinking.

I will never forget her relentless ‘why’ and  ‘how’ questions, wise beyond her years…sensitive and kind.

I will never forget how she  suddenly blossomed into a beautiful, brilliant young adult right before my very eyes…how her keen interest in humanity, ethics, culture, language, religion, history and matters of the heart just prevailed, and became her.

22 years old now –my baby is truly crossing over into adulthood.  She graduates college this spring.  She has big plans, and beautiful gifts to give the world.

I am in awe of the woman she has become. I am so incredibly proud to be her mother.

Happy Birthday Marysa, my Big Girl…my Love!

      • Haha… I’m one of her best customers now. Since my grandkids were born we have used her 4 times.. and in Dec will go back.. she’s awesome. Actually on our last shoot she came from Spokane to Seattle just to take those pics.. Now just trying to figure out what to do in the winter time with 2 two year olds for a special shoot.
