“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul.
It is daily admission of one’s weakness.
It is better in prayer to have a heart without words,
than words without heart.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks so much galaxy….early awakening for me this am, and was inspired by this moment I captured just yesterday ~ this marvelous creature surrendering her spirit to what is. Appreciate your comment ~ RL

What an amazingly different photograph, Robyn, and I have never heard/seen this Gandhi quote before. I love the way you have somehow joined incongruity into something coherent (yeah, don’t worry I dunno what I mean here either – must be tired but hope you get my drift.)
Sending you heaps of virtual love! Juliexxx

Thanks Julie… I’m up early this am with a fiery throat it seems…and was looking over shots I took yesterday at Father’s Day gathering. This one just ‘spoke to me’ and felt very spiritual in its essence… and then of course the quote just happens to come directly into my mind’s eye 🙂 Glad you liked, and no worries – totally get what your mean – and love it !!! xo

So sorry about your throat – I know you can’t take painkillers but can you get some antibiotics? Oh I am so worried about you!
June 18, 2012 at 8:18 AM
I indulged in some advil and hubby brought me up lemon and salt rinses… will see where it goes and “pray” it’s merely a passing thing. Last year had a virus that lasted 5 months… not happening!!! Thank you sweet Julie for being such a caring wonderful friend ~ xoRL

Oh beautiful Celeste – I am going to send out special prayer that the spam gods release you from such ridiculousness! I took this one out and also the Father’s Day comment – hopefully soon you will free to enter blogsphere with us again – Miss YOU!!! xo

June 18, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Hi David… thanks so much…me too love this quote! Sums up how I truly feel about prayer. It’s all about the feelings 🙂 Wonderful too that you shared the post with your kids… Love it! Thanks for well-wishes. Don’t’ get ordinary colds much at all – so hoping this is just very transient throat soreness. You have a great day ~ Sending good thoughts to you~ Summer is here for you – yes? YAY!!
June 18, 2012 at 1:05 PM
My throat is echoing yours…hoping it’s just allergies :))))
June 18, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Me too David .. heart-felt prayer this is so 🙂
June 18, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Wonderful…prayer does equal weakness….need to remember that…doesn’t come so easily to me…thanks…Robyn

Thanks so much Meryl… agree we must surrender control and open to vulnerability in order to truly enter the realm of prayer. Something beautiful about this…though as you say, not easy for those of us who have need to be in control. I was taken by this image and it just brought this whole subject to the forefront for me. Amazing how images can do that ~ xo

Okay, Miss Robyn, what were you dangling above that kitty’s head??! Hahaha! Knowing you, I’m sure you didn’t even have to playfully entice the kitty into that perfect pose! What a great shot — I love it! This is something I struggle with daily. What a powerful thought thought this is: “It is better in prayer to have a heart without words, than words without heart.” At times, I spend a lot of time struggling to formulate the exactly “right” words through prayer, but I need this reminder that sometimes are words are not even necessary. Just the heart, the longing and the faith. Hope you feel better soon, my friend.

😉 Ahhh KT – you may be on to something. Was leaving Father’s Day BBQ at family’s house and this setting stood before me. I paused, and took a moment to just inhale it. Then seeing La Gata (the kitty) nearby – solicited my niece and asked how we can keep La Gata still for a portrait… some dangling branches tied to a stick was all it took for this quick photo shoot. Had no idea I would use it today – but as usual, when I woke early am, and browsed through my images – it just called to me. Thus the post 🙂 And yes – I do think prayer is all about opening the heart and feeling…surrendering control and worldly thought. The words are secondary (as is religion in any formal sense) …nice if they are inspired, but also fine if there is simply heart and faith, longing. A nice contemplation for me today… as I soothe my sore throat!! Should be fine – and thank you my sweet friend xo Much Love ~

Oh nia – so grateful to hear your words today… I was not certain if the photo was balanced photographically, but was very much drawn to it’s essence and wanted to post. I so appreciate your input as you are a very talented photographer and wonderful soul. Sending Love ~ RL

Thank you Mark. I so did appreciate Gandhi’s quote – and was so happy to pair it with this image. It was a good focus for me today. I’m so glad you enjoyed too! ~ Warm wishes, RL

Love this..my kids and I pray every morning before they go to school…we never recite, always a heartfelt prayer about our present concerns…keeping it current and from the heart, so important! Lovely!
June 18, 2012 at 9:25 PM
That is beautiful Lady Day! I have never recited in prayer either…. just always seems artificial…. has to come from the heart I agree ! Thank you for this 🙂
June 19, 2012 at 1:31 PM
I love the kitty cat…my cat Max is laying right beside me. Prayer is such beautiful experience when felt with the deep silence, yet powerful depths of our hearts. It is that connection and knowing that no matter where we are we can just open our heart and share what we feel with the Divine. Thank you. Hope you feel better 🙂 Blessings, Erin
June 18, 2012 at 9:44 PM
Thanks Erin! Max sounds like a love ~ as is La Gata (photo) . Yes – this view of prayer is so much in alignment with my own feelings too. Was happy to have the opportunity to share this here. Appreciate well-wishes — doing ok at the moment 🙂 Best wishes and Love ~ RL

Oh, I love this quote…that is EXACTLY how I feel. I pray in my heart all day long. Every few minutes I am in tune with myself and my heart’s intention. Love, loved it SEA SISTER. Oh, and pleaseeeeeeee what an adorable photo. So very precious. 🙂 Thanks for the cuteness factor coupled with spiritual power. Perfect combo. 🙂 Sam (yours is one of my favorite blogs…shhhhh!)
June 18, 2012 at 10:52 PM
Yes Sam — so much the way I embrace prayer as well. Organized structured prayer never appealed to me the way Open Heart ~ personal prayer does. So glad you liked the post — my spontaneous photo inspired the meditation on prayer …and then the quote simply appears (amazing how that happens…sort of like my discovery of your poem which will go up by week’s end!) … So appreciate your love for the blog – and for your sea-sister here in blog universe 🙂 ~ you’re beauty shines through and through… Love to you ~RL

Lovely Image Robyn.
I like Gandhi’s words also.
(Throat treatment: A full glass of hot fresh lemon juice with a heaped teaspoon of honey every 3-4 hours. No sugar, just pure organic (if poss.) honey – works a treat for me. In fact several glasses of hot lemon juice on it’s own, several times, cured my gastro last week. I use lemon juice for all sorts of things).
June 19, 2012 at 8:18 AM
Thanks so much Victoria – me too on the quote 🙂
Also appreciate the remedy — hot lemon juice – that is new — is it just warming the water and adding fresh lemon then? Or juicing straight lemon and heating? I seem to be much improved in a single day — so yay for that!! I do drink lemon water regularly – enjoy it much. So glad your tummy bug was cured. Lemons rock! 😉
