Hope & Healing Through Photography and Poetic Expression

My Lens

As we stand before
the garden
so
lush

~

you
ask:

 “Which lens
will you choose
to view
the world?”

~

Without hesitation,
I reply:

“I choose the lens
that
illuminates
the sky…

so
I may sparkle
amongst the
evening
stars,

and

slide down
the golden rays of
morning
sun.”

~

Approvingly,
you nod,
and
query:

“Can you tell me more
about this lens
you
long for?”

~

I exclaim:

“I wish
for

this lens
to
enlighten,

and
show me

how to dance
with trees,

 as they
sway

to
and
fro

with
reverence

for
wind’s most
soulful
song.”

~

You gaze at me,
with a most
curious stare,
and say:

 “Ahhh, but tell me,
can you
even
find

such a
lens to call
your own?”

~

I pause,

and
wistfully
declare:

“Oh yes, Oh yes!

 I will
find
this lens;

This looking
glass

that
inspires

my fingers

~

to

touch
the delicate
silken petals

of

even the
smallest
flower,

and

to
explore
the deepest
lines

ingrained
on
 earth’s fallen
leaves.”

~

 You sigh,
seemingly
satisfied,

“Hmm,”

you say,
in a low
contemplative
tone,

“but this wonderful
lens you

speak of…

tell me
of
the most
perfect
vision
it

will
 ultimately
reveal.

~

And then,
I smile,
slowly closing
my
hopeful eyes,
and
profess:

“I choose the lens
that
 guides me
gently…

through
the open
doors
of

my own
heart,

so that I
can

see

~

with perfect
precision
and
clarity

~

every
glorious
color

of

~

Your

Love.”

    • Julie ~ thank you so so much. Very touched by your comment dearest friend. I was unsure about this piece as it’s a different kind of writing for me… and not sure exactly what inspired me to have a “dialogue” with myself (perhaps your emails to self!!)… but as I embraced it, came to find comfort so wanted to share I did my own informal reading at end (blue link) which Im not brining much attention to…but maybe you would like to Hop listen. Hope that it lifted you a bit too in a small way, and always sending you love and blessings ~ xxoo R

  15. Robert Gregory

Really beautiful, Robyn! 🙂 Love the picture and poem. Got a question for you, though: what is your birth sign? Just curious, not that it matters much, but I’m always curious about really great artists and what month they were born. If I had to guess, I’d say Cancer or Pisces, but I’m no expert on astrology, so . . . I was just curious.

    November 17, 2012 at 11:52 AM

    • Hi Robert ~ Thank you so very much!! Very glad you enjoyed! Also what a lovely compliment to put me in the class of “really great artists” ~ especially as you are one yourself! As for birthday ~ I’m a Capricorn ~ so not sure if that’s a match…. have not really been into the zodiac thing n a very long time…but just did very quick research and not sure I am a true goat to be honest ! 🙂 If i recall yrs back having chart done I had Cancner rising… so maybe that is what you are picking up. Fun to think about! Sending Love ~ RL

      November 17, 2012 at 7:37 PM

      • Robert Gregory

Ah, cool! That makes sense somewhat. I have a close friend who’s a Capricorn and she’s very creative. And yeah, it’s a fun thing to consider personality-wise. 🙂

  22. Robyn, my oh-so special friend (the “forever” kind you know). The tears on my face are those of a wonderful happiness at the beauty of your words. I have but few words to add here. As always your love of life and beauty (and quiet strength of the daily endurance of physical pain) is personified to a perfection when you create dearest one. You are such a blessing and a gift to all who know you and follow. Thank you. All my love to you braveheart! Penny, xxoxx

      • You also Robyn. I just say what I feel. Sometimes it gets me in trouble lol, sometimes people scratch their head and look sideways at me (another lol) and sometimes when I mean it so especially…the message gets through most dearest friend of mine. Sending back in full much love this day, Penny xxooxx

        November 18, 2012 at 1:24 PM

  23. Robyn, I don’t even know how to begin to explain to you how I feel each time I read one of your poems. Your voice comes from a deep well of insight, perhaps intensified by the chronic pain with which you live. I know that is exactly how I felt when I listened to my dear friend Barbara speak, who also lived with chronic pain. I am saddened that you must deal with this but am sure that along with your suffering you have been given a precious gift that you so selflessly share with all of us. I pray that someone in the medical profession will find a way very soon to ease your pain. Hope you are having a restful weekend.

    November 18, 2012 at 12:03 AM

    • Oh my LuAnn ~ I am speechless … your comment is so utterly loving and supportive. I do think this “well” you speak of was born of the challenge and pain… which is ironic – but a small gift that I can give myself and others. I guess when I seek this “lens” that I speak of here in my prose poem … I am also looking for the one that lets me see these gifts be it in the beauty of words or images, nature – or wonderful friendships … that I can so easily overlook in the midst of the suffering. Really it is what makes my journey worth continuing. I appreciate so much your blessings and well-wishes for me. Always with Love and Gratitude ~ Robyn

I can see what you feel
Your song fills my eyes .
    Your echoes morph themselves
to beat deep inside my heart.
    Your dreams become

    You are the reflection
    That makes my mirror exist.
