Quelling
all
mortal
fear;

~

I
hungered

I
heard
a

“He is not

there

play.”

~

In
that
one final

we

  4. Why lion? Strong, and powerful, is that what we are looking for?We are captive of power, and strength :).

    February 28, 2013 at 6:33 PM

    • Thank you dear qiquan ~ oh – perhaps you may be interested:

Other than a symbol for strength, symbolic attributes of the lion include:

      Courage
      Power
      Royalty
      Dignity
      Authority
      Dominion
      Justice
      Wisdom
      Ferocity

Lots going on with this guy it seems – Is it any wonder I was smitten?? 🙂 Warmest Wishes your way ~ RL

      February 28, 2013 at 6:41 PM

      • Yes, that’s what I was wondering, is our subconscious mind that read the words :). I am just curious why you have been attracted to the symbols. Normally it is the lacking of those elements that make us wish for them.

        Warmest wishes
        qiquan

        February 28, 2013 at 7:04 PM

    • Thank you quiquan — and yes, I agree… though not so much the “lack” as the “awareness” of what is desired ~ So to be able to recognize the, (for example) desire to be courageous, or free … is huge — and the creative channeling of these emotions in a form that is artistic, engaging and touches others at deeper levels – is very powerful indeed.

I am actually quite tuned into the realm of depth psychology ~ my master’s work, and passion. I guess it has manifested in these blog works to some degree… but really — I am just having fun ! That is really all that matters – yes?

    Excellent shot, Robyn.
Love the poem also – the words are a perfect match for the image.
Looking forward to seeing some more zoo images from your walks.
Hope the treatment is going well.

    • Thank you Victoria ~ I took this one on my one and only visit to the zoo 😦 Unfortunately between the weather and my physical stuff it just has not been possible… then my computer crashed ~ needed a new operating system so lost most of what I had (it may be on card that is in camera though)… I am so glad you liked this guy though ~ I definitely felt the connection with him … but wished he was free to roam the jungles of Africa instead of enclosed there ~ made me think about my own life 🙂 ~ Love and Blessings ~ One more week or so here xo RL

  7. Tom

Robyn: like a puzzle, a maze or labyrinth, I can’t tell where you are going while being delighted at the end. So, speaking as a Leo, well done.

    February 28, 2013 at 7:26 PM

    • Thank you Tom!! A Leo ~ oh I had a big crush on one in my college days — long story! It is funny that I don’t plan these poems – and they seem to often present as puzzles this way! Maybe it is subconscious channeling when working from images captured in midst of emotion ? Not sure — but I am so glad you enjoyed dear friend ~ much love – RL

  8. Julie Catherine

Love your poem and that beautiful shot of that gorgeous lion, dear Robyn. I too wish he were free to roam, but can understand how you could feel a connection with this majestic animal. I usually have the same feelings when I see animals in zoos or caged in any way. I hope you are coping and doing well … I’ve just come home from the hospital for the second time since Sunday; I had a major scare with my heart and it’s been a difficult week to say the least. But I am home now; bruised from IVs and various tests and hurting big time all over, but I’m home. I’m taking a few days to recover and relax and then back to the doctor’s on Tuesday …. sending you gentle hugs and lots of love, dear friend. ~ Love always, Julie xoxox

    February 28, 2013 at 7:28 PM

    • Thank you so much Julie, means a lot to me, and I know you are a sensitive soul, as I am — and can feel similarly about the beautiful creatures that are playing a different role than nature intended. Oh my dear friend.. i was very worried to hear of your ordeal. Have they sorted out your heart issues? I too have had some scares this year (for me it’s PVC and SVT rhythms ) … scary as can be – and I believe in my case pain is a trigger ~ Please know I’m keeping you in heart and prayer… have re-read your poem (Essence of a Woman) so many times ~ you are a gift ~ xo RL

      February 28, 2013 at 8:51 PM

      • Julie Catherine

Dear Robyn, I am so sorry to hear about your scares as well (((gentle hugs))) healing thoughts and much love to you girlfriend! I am just resting today, and have a doctor’s appointment Tuesday afternoon – they should have the results from the tests by then. I’m so honored that you’ve enjoyed that poem so much, and hope that I’ll be able to finish the new poetry book by the end of this year. Please try to take care of yourself and give yourself lots of nurturing, and I will try too. Keeping you also in my heart and prayers, and sending much love, Julie xoxox

  10. Absolutely stunning photo and most exquisite poem to accompany it!! Your gift for both photos and poetry always fills me up with some wonderful emotion everytime you write….it’s a little journey for me. I understand the captive feeling…feeling that way inside myself some days…as I know you know…if but to release from the physical/emotional burdens and only if for a moment roam free….yes that would be wondrous! I think though, that through your words and photos….that is our ability to roam…to write our way on an exciting excursion. Thank you beloved friend for this exquisite journey…sending so so much love, hugs, prayers, and healing energy to you all ways ♥♥♥♥!!

    February 28, 2013 at 7:57 PM

    • thank you so much my beloved friend! Yes – you have expressed just what I feel here ~ the journey we get to take here in the creative process.. both in focussing on the work of others’ and by creating ourselves… very precious gift that allows that sense of freedom it’s hard to tap into on a daily basis. I have not here as frequently lately, and can feel the energy today upon returning. Always super special …. Very glad you enjoyed this, and sending those hugs and healing energy along with lots of love back to you dear Christina ~ xxxooo Robyn

    February 28, 2013 at 8:55 PM

    • Thank you so much dear Kim. He was a really special vision to behold on this particular day. Defintitely was lucky to have his attention for the photo this way ~ 🙂 So glad you enjoyed it !!🌼 x RL

  13. I love this, Robyn. More than once, I’ve stopped on the way to work because of a large buck blocking my way. I roll down my window and he looks as I look. For moments, we are all there is. Sometimes, I say ‘hey, you should get out of the road’……and other times, he continues to watch as he passes into the woods, as if to say, ‘I know you still’……… *sigh* Love is beautiful…….no matter what. ~ Love you, Bobbie

    February 28, 2013 at 9:29 PM

    • Thank you so much dear Bobbie . I do know what you describe here ~ Always makes me think of a song by Van Morrison actually — enjoy ths my beautiful friend “it’s ever-present everywhere” ~ http://youtu.be/0kl_CIiQXVs ❤ RL

  14. Hi Robyn,
It’s been a while since I visited but now I see that the wait was worth it. Another wonderful post ! You led me down a winding path of maybe yes…, maybe no…, well, maybe tomorrow, to the obvious at the end. Somehow I wasn’t surprised too much by the lion but it was a bit of a “gotcha”. I have an affinity for the big cats. They have such a haughty majesty about them that you can’t help but admire them…, and the eyes, it’s as though they can look right into your soul. Really liked this post.
Now for Robyn… How are you doing? Are the treatments helping or do you seem to have plateaued with them? That happened with my therapy for a bit after my transplant but I was able to persist and work through it. Hang in there and keep hope. I think of you often. ~Peace and love~
    Paul

    February 28, 2013 at 9:56 PM

    • Now you know that you’re not the only one with computer problems. Hate it !!!!!!!!!

      February 28, 2013 at 9:57 PM

    • Hi Paul ~ and thank you my dear freind. I am glad to have taken you on a little journey down the winding path of wonder here ~ and good for you predicting you might meet my Lion friend at the culmination 🙂 It is true, these “big cats” are pretty amazing cratures — this one was so intriguing in person… just wished he was not behind bars ~ and some have pointed out that the photo almost refelcts this as the bars amost came out “artificial” in their appearance ~ pretty cool! As for me — it’s still slow-going. Just another week till I will head home… and have learned sooooo much but wish I had more indication that this method will get me to a better place with regard to pain and funciton. Keeping hope, and as you said, sometimes it takes time and patience. Clearly my case is somewhat of an enigma. I am still thrilled I had this experience, and have no doubt it will serve me over the longrun. Sending Love and blessings alwahys ~ Robyn

  15. The poem and the photo make me think of Aslan in CS Lewis’ Narnia stories!

    March 1, 2013 at 12:37 AM

    • ooo that is such a cool comparison Julie ~ YES – he did seem like he might all of a sudden begin speaking to me! Definitely was animated and engaged, and that is why I was so ‘captivated’ ~ Thank you dear friend — Sending lots and lots of love!! x RL

      March 1, 2013 at 9:33 AM

  16. This is such a wonderful poem! i love it and the match to the picture – wow! how do you do that? 🙂 i am really curious now. do you look into photo first and then the words come to your mind? even if its secret – its working! Love and Light to you my dear friend xxo

    March 1, 2013 at 1:18 AM

    • Poojy ~ you are soooo sweet and kind. Thank you. I wish I could tell you “how I do that” – with the words to match the photo…. To be honest I often have no clue what to write about when I am wanting to feature a photo — and then I just stare at it — meditate on it — and ponder the emotions that come up which usually reflect how I felt when I took the picture, and perhaps also how I’m feeling at the time of writing (maybe unconscious stuff that I have not allowed into awareness yet)… so guess it’s more deep than I realize!! 🙂 I always say it is really my ‘therapy’ ~~ and this is likely why! Thank you for making me think about this some today — In the end it’s all for the ‘fun of it’ though – -and the best part is sharing with warm wonderful souls like you!!❤ ~ Much Lovex Robyn

      March 1, 2013 at 9:37 AM

      • yes, i can definitely agree on therapeutic aspects of blogging. it is much fun, but then, by the end of the day we don’t even realize how amazing we are feeling when sharing our emotions with others. and you, my dear, are very good in it! hugs and love to you dear! xxo ~~

  17. good picture and poem Robyn.you always keep me guessing right up to the last second-really grabs my attention.

    March 1, 2013 at 1:35 AM

    • Aww thank you so much Jane! I keep me guessing as well! 🌻xrl

      March 1, 2013 at 9:53 AM

  18. I loved the words and then got to the photo… and my disappointment was a strong feeling of jealousy… I would have wanted those words with my Lion photos… why can’t i write such words that attract the attention of all that read them.. the regal royalty of the male lion.. his power, his presence.. his very control of all he looks at, the “I control and have power over you” of the eyes, even in half sleep, that is so mesmerizing.. their ability to demand your attention, the look of ease and friendliness that makes you want to cuddle them, that would end in your own demise… Robyn.. your words are so beautiful, you are so blessed with this ability to astound and capture an audience, and your aptitude to match the perfect words to the perfect photo… amazing…

    March 1, 2013 at 2:35 AM

    • Of course I thought of you right away when I saw this Lion ~ and thought how magnificent it would be to see him roaming free in his native land of Africa where bulldog lives. Feel free to steal my poem (or any of them) anytime you want to pair with a photo — but as I always say– you are such a wonderful writer with spirit – I know you could do poetry too if you wanted!! And yes — the masculine lion, those eyes….. ~ so much energy here – and an archetype for powerful, confident, commanding poised and yet, as you say — alluring in a sensitive (cuddle type) way as well… Pretty amazing ~ I did not know how to write about this guy as the bars bothered me — but somehow the words felt right to express what I was feeling about him and our encounter. I am soooo happy you liked it bulldog – thank you for your amazing ways, and your friendship always xxoo RL

      March 1, 2013 at 6:36 PM

  19. That mane…such presence…the eyes…they sparkle with intelligence and a confidence so kingly and spectacular-Your words-they paint a picture…a glowing story universal…a tale of beauty! Enjoyed the piece.

    March 1, 2013 at 4:51 AM

    • Yes The Blazing Trail ~ I sooo agree…. what creature has more of a powerful presence than the regal lion?! It was my privilege to photograph and write for this guy ~ I will remember my encounter with him always ~ and although my heart breaks that he is not free to roam in the wild… I feel blessed that I got to meet him this day 🙂 Thank you kindly for your wonderful comment today my friend ~ much love and light ~ rl

Robyn I love this. I was very surprised to see the photo after reading the poem

    March 1, 2013 at 10:10 AM

    • Thank you dear Renee! I am so glad you enjoyed and were even surprised … i sort of surprised myself writing it!! Love to you ~ Robyn

      March 1, 2013 at 6:49 PM

  22. Hi Robyn, Great photo and poem – really magical I thought. I am torn, though, as I don’t like to see him behind bars. I feel bad that we view such magestic animals in this way and have had to capture them and restrain them. Still I would love to see him though! It is the only way that many of us will ever lay eyes on such beauty as this. Like I said, torn!! Much love to you sweet thing xx

    March 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM

    • Thank you so much Ruth!! I know exactly what you mean, and this was hard a hard project for me as I took the photo a few weeks ago but was so confused what to write, since I had all kinds of mixed emotions around him being on display and not where nature intended him to be – roaming free in the jungle. So I sat with this image a while and these words somehow just flowed ~ i felt soooo much better about it all after – knowing that I had this encounter with such a beautiful majestic creature that I otherwise would never meet ~ and that he would be honored in this way here …. so energetically it was the very best I could do for him ~ and create peace for me as well. Sort of deep considering, but you know how us psychoanalytic types 🙂 ~ Lots and Lots of Love your way my dearest friend ~ Final week here — no regrets… learning so much… and hopeful! xo Robyn

  23. It’s a beautiful, bittersweet love story. It makes me think there is always hope for love, and love is worth hoping for. Thank you dear Robyn, and love to you! – Resa

    March 1, 2013 at 11:26 AM

    • Oh Resa ~ this is a beautiful and a so apropos interpretation!!! Yes — love presents in so many forms, and so many ways … and if we stop to recognize and feel — it’s all ours for the taking! So thrilled to see you – and very happy you enjoyed. Tons of Love ~ and can’t wait to see your next Art-Gown!!! x RL

      March 1, 2013 at 7:02 PM

  24. This is good good stuff sweet and special friend of mine. Levels again. You are a clever one Robyn. The photo fantastic. His gorgeous eyes say all don’t they? And your words, sigh, perfect. Mmmm. I just read it a second time, I’m up a little later for me. So glad I stopped by! What a great way to go to sleep now. I will dream of other worlds and other times and other potentialities (life is so rich with them and you capture this again and again). Love you muchly, keep taking care of you Penny ooxoo

    March 2, 2013 at 3:36 AM

    • Thank you dearest Penny!! Yes – this was more levels than I’d realized — so unplanned. It’s my self-pysychoanalysis I guess 🙂 — and great fun. Yes — he was so beautiful, and yet I had all these feelings around him being “unfree” — and then all the projection about the symbolic and energetic aspects of “Lion” ~ oh and so much more -but this is what ended up on the page. I am so glad you could appreciate. I do believe in the infinite potential in each of us ~ and our planet — you are right on target as always ~
So much Love and thrilled you are back in he “sphere” with us again!! xo Love to you – RL

      March 2, 2013 at 2:13 PM

  25. Captivating indeed. Yet another classic pairing of photo and verse, placed in the order that beguiles the reader to provide even greater impact at the denouement. What is common to all your pieces is the beautiful, soft voice and the wordweaving phrases that convey multiple levels of emotion and mood, colour and sight, thoughts and tactility. Wonderful work Robyn.

    March 2, 2013 at 6:41 AM

    • Yay Mike — I am so happy you too were captivated 🙂 and thrilled you enjoyed this. Although I don’t plan these pieces, I do realize there seems to be this pattern evolving as you describe – and deeper layers inherent in my, seemingly, light simple poetry. The blog “play” has been healing to me on many levels ~ and it seems this style of post has developed into a ‘brand’ of sorts! I am certainly enjoying the work, and love to be able to share with wonderful friends like you ~Thank you — RL

      March 2, 2013 at 2:19 PM

  26. That is just brilliant, Robyn! The image wasn’t quite what I expected to see at the end of your poem, but I love the surprise. It fits quite well, and I think lions are such beautiful creatures.
Hope all is going well with the new treatments. Thinking of you.

    March 3, 2013 at 1:28 AM

    • Oh Fergi ~ thank you so very much! I know it was one of those trick-endings ~ though you know I always have my photos first and the words are inspired by them… Guess they guy really got to me 🙂 My therapy here is coming to an end this week. Cannot believe it’s been 6 weeks. Learned a lot ~ but still not where I need to be… I am hoping over time my gains will be greater… Much Love, and hope you are doing well! ~ RL

      March 3, 2013 at 10:12 PM

  27. I wasn’t expecting the lion at the end but that made the poem even that much more captivating. 🙂

    March 3, 2013 at 5:29 PM

  28. 🙂 LuAnn ~ so happy there was a little surprise for you here ~ and that you enjoyed. Something about Lions you know?
    xo Much Love

    March 3, 2013 at 10:13 PM

  29. I thought of you as I listened to a Northern Ireland presentation about Rare Disease. A lovely blogger has a rare disorder and has just taken part in the Northern Ireland Rare Disease Partnership–she embedded the video in her post. http://memineandotherbits.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/the-day-before/

Featured in the video was a young man afflicted with a syndrome that causes his joints to be loose, with attendant problems. His story is so typical: have a horrible time and the docs intimate malingering. (Don’t get me started on the rage I feel at that.) Perhaps something helpful. Speccy (the blogger at me mine and other bits) included the link to the UK National Health Service description of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

I don’t want to overwhelm you, but I do know that those of us in the trenches often know more than the doctors we seek out. I wish you the best. –Laurel

    March 4, 2013 at 10:16 AM

    • Thank you so much Laurel. I just watched the whole video. So true that these misunderstood disorders go unrecognized and unnoticed very often. Jaime with the EDS … I am super familiar with this connective tissue disease. Actually there have been some doctors who believe I have it — and others who strongly disagree. There are many types of EDS and only one (vascular form) can be proven by testing (biopsy of skin)… the others are all dxed clinically. There is a ls also a huge spectrum. Sounds like Jaimie in video has the hypermoblity type – I related to him — just to learn how to minimize joint subluxations and to learn ways to correct them when they happen. Makes me wonder… Truly appreciate your share here ~ such an important issue to create awareness around ~ Best to you always, Robyn

      March 4, 2013 at 11:41 AM

      • I feel relief that this wasn’t a surprise, honestly. You have enough going on without hearing about yet another possibility to research.

I so hope you are finding those ways to minimize the subluxations. I will continue to hope. A lot. –L.

        March 4, 2013 at 2:53 PM

    • Thank you so much Laurel ~ truly do appreciate your thoughtfulness. ~ love and light — RL

      March 5, 2013 at 6:44 PM

  30. “Boundaries at play” I like how you point this out as so much of life is about this exact thing right? How we manage and deal with different boundaries that are around us. Some we know we can’t break but others we decide we have to. There is so much in this poem. Thank you Robyn. I hope you’re doing well and maybe you’re back home now? Sending you much love -AB

    March 4, 2013 at 1:37 PM

    • Yes — the lion’s cage can represent so many things Arash… I agree. And it is so true that life presents these barriers for us constantly ~ and then it is how we choose to approach them (or overcome them) that might make all the difference to our own peace and happiness on this journey.
I am very happy to know you enjoyed ~ I met up with this lovely lion on my one outing to the zoo which is situated right across the street from where I’ve been living during my rehab mission. Winding down now in final week, will go home and continue training with the program… progress is not rapid – but I know you get that more than anyone. Sending Love and Light ~ RL

      March 5, 2013 at 10:04 AM

  31. Kev

Yes. I can relate and for myself would add:
    In another life
    Perhaps

    March 4, 2013 at 3:27 PM

    • Thank you Kev — It is interesting because those words did also come to me when I was writing this ~ and so new time/new place was my way of saying same. For the Lion ~ he may, in next life be human ~ or have a life roaming the jungles free ~ or I may get to know him in some other way other than observer at a zoo… etc. Of course the metaphor in any relationship we focus on – can be extended in so many ways. Thank you so much for your insight. Appreciate truly ~ RL

      March 5, 2013 at 10:09 AM

  32. Beautiful… boundaries of the heart are interesting, very difficult to contain what moves a heart… as if it has a life of its own. Nice work here 😉

    March 4, 2013 at 7:18 PM

    • So true Roxi… I have to agree with you. The open heart has a way to dissolve so many boundaries. Thank you so much for your visit… Very much appreciate having you! Love and Blessings ~ RL

      March 6, 2013 at 12:30 AM

  33. What a romantic and haunting story! I love it!!! Totally my style and the photo was just beautiful 🙂

    • Thrilled you enjoyed this dear Amanda !! I did not get to spend all that much time with my animal friends here at the zoo as I’d hoped…but was very lucky to have a date with this guy one afternoon. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! ~ 🙂 RL

  34. I’ve had these moments before with animals. yes, I so hear you. There is some connection, some “knowing” of each other…and a knowing that we’ll meet again. What a lovely poem, Robyn. Your words — the way the flow, the imagery — soooo inspire me. Thank you dear heart. How are you feeling these days???? i am just getting back ‘online’ a bit w/ this brain injury. it’s ok though — i so see and embody and feel in my bones how all suffering brings us back to the lap of the divine…to rest, to be held, to be empowered. love, lisa

      • welcome home; i look forward to updates!

yesterday i thought of a doctor in samara costa rica who helped a pain-management problem that suddenly afflicted my shoulder. i couldn’t paint, couldn’t hold a fork – it was as if my shoulder were broken. traditional medicine provided a temporary fix, and i went to doc tangri, a kinesiologist. wow. and wow again. after a short session, i asked, so when can i resume painting? and he shrugged, ‘whenever you’d like. you’re cured as long as you don’t re-injure your shoulder again.’

he allowed me to sit in on another patient’s healing, and again – wow. i was so honored to witness what he did and how it all worked. he said that he has helped many patients that the doctors could not help.. even children with severe birth disorders, autism.. he is a true gift…

if you ever find yourself with the wanderlust for a trip to Costa Rica, a visit to see him might be helfpful.
