Hope & Healing Through Photography and Poetic Expression

Portals

Brilliant steel potentiality:
Calling me forth, like a
Magnetic portal to
A new place
and time;

Arched over blue expanse of
Liquid fire mystery;
Connecting
What is:

to what
can
be.

Heartfelt thanks to guest photographer, my dear Aunt Renée who honored me by allowing me to feature her stunning image in my post today. I admired this new photo on her Facebook page earlier, and it inspired me to write the poetic verse above. She captured this beautiful shot in Astoria Park NY, beneath the 2 bridges pictured (Hell Gate Bridge and Triborough Bridge ).

I think a new hobby may be calling her forth ~ don’t you?!

Thank you Aunt Renée ~ I Love You

  1. Your generous spirit is alive inside this photograph even though it was taken by Aunt Renee. Your poetry is amazing – that concept of how ‘what is’ can be transformed into ‘what can be’. I am continually gobsmacked by your fearlessness, your beauty and your steel hope. Love you so much Robyn.

    • Julie, thank you so much. Yes – when Aunt Renee posted this today on FB, I was so taken by the image. I immediately started envisioning the symbolism of the ‘bridge’ and then all the nature surrounding these pillars of steel… well ~ just had to ask if she’d let me post the shot. She was beyond thrilled – is an avid ‘follower’ and comments almost daily (I told her she needs to start a blog too :)). I am so happy you liked it — and I thank you for seeing the ‘hopeful’ aspects of my own spirit. Forever ‘workin on it’, as I know you can understand. Much Love right back to you Julie ~ R

    • That is so wonderful to know Celeste. Yes – I do hear you…. I felt that sense of grounding as I wrote them as well….the solidity of the strong steel bridge… but yet the possibilities that might exist once we cross them, and all the magic in nature that is around them. Thank you for your consistently thoughtful comments here, I am always in awe of them. Yes – also really proud of Aunt Renee… she was just taking for ‘fun’ but maybe has a ‘healing lens’ of her own to embrace !! xxoo R

‘Liquid fire mystery, connecting what is; to what could be’ this poem is brilliant Robyn and I particularly love the last part. Your Aunt obviously has the same talent as you when it comes to taking photographs. I hope today doesn’t bring you too much pain. Much love to you.x

    August 22, 2012 at 6:22 AM

    • So happy you were touched by this Chris… Yes – that last part really just flowed….It’s what propels us forward on the journey… it’s the hope and the acceptance that where we are will expand and grow into more, if we can have that vision and allow the energy to carry us. Sometimes harder than others to embrace… I know ~ but that is the work. Yes – I think Aunt Renee will be taking up a new hobby in picture taking now 🙂 Who knows maybe even blogging in her future after all the rave reviews here xxoo Much Love to you Chris ~ and hope you are managing ok as well…

    • Oh wow boomie – that means so much — thank you from my heart. I realize now that the images are almost always serving as my ‘muse’… I guess it’s some synapse thing in my brain that takes off when I meditate on a photo. I guess I have other muses too… but the visual of these images seems to be the most powerful. I’m learning … this is all new for me! So thrilled you enjoyed this combination. ~ sending hugs ~R

I have been pondering on different ways to think about situations and different ways to see things and I am so grateful for you Robyn, for helping me “see” in more ways and with more depth. August 22, 2012 at 4:49 PM

  20. That is one beautiful photograph, yes your Aunt definitely captured the beauty of the moment there. I just want to keep gazing at the view. Do encourage her. She is gifted as her niece, speaking of which, your poem seems to epitomize what the bridges would be thinking, feeling, calling out. You expressed that so beautifully well. Such talent from two beautiful women, Robyn, Thank you for sharing you and Your Aunts gifts with the rest of us, my friend – Penny

    August 22, 2012 at 5:12 PM

    • Thank you Penny — I really liked the image too! Brought up lots of emotion. I will tell Renee that you and many of the WordPress gang here thinks she may have a hobby waiting. Bet she would love it, and the blogging too if she got into it. I am so happy you enjoyed the combination, and my poem reflected some of what you could envision for these bridges might tell us if they could speak 🙂 !! Always love to hear your thoughts Penny… (oh my – you could do a post called that “Penny for your thoughts?”) … gosh maybe — I’m loosing it … sorry dearest friend ~ LOL! It’s been a long day and the bathtub awaits me! Sleep peacefully ~ Much Love, R

Lovely words to match the photo – you continue to amaze me with your gift of words..
Your Aunty Renee is one talented photographer – please pass on to her that I loved her photo.

    August 22, 2012 at 10:40 PM

    • Awe thank you Victoria — I truly think the images are the key reason I have tapped into the writing. It’s actually amazing to me too as I thought Julie was crazy when she encouraged me to write my own ‘quotes’ back in the winter. 🙂 Oh yes – I will tell Aunty Renee! She will be so flattered as this was a completely casual shot and she’s never realized this perhaps ‘unknown’ talent that may be lurking! I loved this photo too! So much appreciate your thoughtfulness ~ Much Love to you … R

      August 23, 2012 at 12:06 AM

  22. Beautiful collaboration!! Stunning words and photograph that fit together like two puzzle pieces…I love your powerful words, the way you lay them out, and of course this beautiful photo of your Aunt’s!! I also always enjoy reading your comments and seeing how people interpret your work…it’s so fascinating to me! Most especially the comment you wrote back to Chris ~

“….It’s what propels us forward on the journey… it’s the hope and the acceptance that where we are will expand and grow into more, if we can have that vision and allow the energy to carry us. Sometimes harder than others to embrace… I know ~ but that is the work.”

These words just really really spoke to me today…I’m facing some interesting choices that will change the direction of my life and this was just the inspiration I needed today. I believe these will be good changes, so no worries….but anything new or unknown can be scary until we face it.

I feel like I was peeking in on a conversation…just really struck me, so profoundly, what you two were saying…
Thank you so much dear friend for always shining so very bright!!! Sending so so much love ♥♥♥♥!! xoxoxo ~

    August 23, 2012 at 12:57 AM

    • Thanks so much Christina… I’m so glad you liked this post – and enjoyed my Aunt’s photo too! I liked the words that came to me here too… just gave me a sense of comfort in navigating unchartered waters that are scary. — Chris also deals with chronic pain and has been working hard on not falling into the dark places it can take us when we are at this level of disability. It’s so hard to envision wellness when you feel so unwell 24/7. I’m working on it and so is he… and we try to support eachother through this wonderful community we all share here. Absolutely fine for you to peek in on any conversations that serves you my dear friend. I hope whatever choices you are facing unfold with ease for you and I know you will make good decisions along the way. Just thrilled that this was helpful and soooo appreciate your loving encouragement always ~ Gratitude and Love, Robyn

      August 24, 2012 at 12:20 AM

      • Thank you so much…I am sure Chris finds you to be a very bright light in those dark places…as I do!! I have discovered his blog through you and really love making connections with amazing people fighting…Sheryl Crow said it best “No one said life would be easy, but no one said it would be this hard”. I know since then others have claimed that phrase, but I heard it first from her!! 🙂 It is the will to fight that keeps us all going…that gives hope, spreads inspiration, and for some brings peace to know that one is not fighting alone!! Your words and Chris’s bring me more hope!

Thank you for being you, for always saying what I need to hear…you do shine so very very bright!! 🙂

You are so appreciated dearest friend!! And so very encouraging to so so many!! ♥♥♥♥!!

    • Oh my – I just finished commenting on your blog post today– what an adventure you had. I use peapod (home delivery) so look what i miss out on not going to the supermarket!! Thank you so much for your lovely thoughts on this post. I will tell my aunt who just took this photo very causally never thinking it was going anywhere but her Facebook wall! I loved it too – and just had to write my little verse for it and post. Rest is good — Couch is good — I can’t be comfortable on a couch these days — I’m a fidgeter who has to be constantly moving and altering position so I crawl around on the floor a lot… life is interesting hugh? So happy to see you here smiling away in that gravitar of yours!! xo

Let’s fly over the liquid fire
on the wings of a wandering zephyr
You become the steel within my flutters
I become the ecstasy inside the flight.

    Held between the now
    and the unchartered
    we become the footstep
hidden in the streams of time.

    August 29, 2012 at 9:06 PM

    • Simply wonderful – you seem to manage this challenge every time…. always landing in the romantic realm — even if my post didn’t begin there initially! Thank you so much Nika – appreciate your talents!! ~RL
